back together once again, the production powerhouse that is lake & lys return to rising music for another piece of peak time, dancefloor madness. humanica picks up where la tromba left off, a huge track featuring a harmonica played by dirty vegas steve smith, backed up by driving synths, heavy percussive drums and the trademark sawtooth lake bass line. sloane, on the other hand, is a classic old skool groover, chords stabs reminiscent of classic house records push the track, while vintage drum machines are perfectly juxtaposed next to modern pad sounds, all combining to send the dancefloor in to old skool ecstasy.

lil tony is hotter than hot. while starting to dj and produce years ago, tony has been a staple in the scandinavian club scene since the early 90s. an amazing dj (actually one of the favourites around the moodmusic hq) and a talented producer, tony started with the fbi project with roberto rodriguez and kimmo oksanen before dropping some serious damage on raw trax vol. 1 last year on moodmusic. caned by everyone from luciano (he edited his own version of semble) to dj hell, tonys raw grooves cut the crap and moved people when other producers had to take a leak. hardworking, never forgetting his gentleman manners, tony is here to stay and raw trax vol. 2 is a bold new statement, and his best work to date. solid state takes the classic detroit influenced drum machine vs piano theme a step forward, a impeccable jam of 15 minutes with the beat keeping the pace, this has been roadproofed the last 6 months to good effect. the b-side karamba is a dry, tight driven tech-workout, perfect mixtool for the deeper techno as well as housier sets. it just works well. the closing checkpoint charlie is a tale of >lost in helsinki< – dark mean bass wanders around and gives space for the chuggin main line, monotonic body music at its best.

hyperdub has long been a fan of grime don terror danjahs razor sharp productions, his unparalleled, skittering rhythm science, deadly riffs, brilliant technicolour synth squiggles, gremlin cackle signature and general ear for a catchy tune. on this first ep for the label, he showcase two strains of his many skills. acid cranks up the energy, with an ascending synth crashing into stuttering drums and synths. they play hide and seek with each other for a bit, before the track unexpectedly breaks into a 4 / 4 house rhythm, and then shatters into pieces again. on the flipside, pro plus, terror is joined by long time collaborator d.o.k for a slice of their classic sound - an infectious, twisted sickly sweet synth melody wrapped around syncopated, stop start drums to mean effect.

nice price deal !!! under secret construction in the on u workshop for the last few months, lee perrys interpretation of the black sabbath classic iron man is finally ready, complete with heavy boots of lead. with adrian sherwood at the controls, and additional input from renowned reggae producer dennis bovell, this full on thumping dub stepper finds scratch positioning himself as the iron man - lion man - lightning man - super man who dont drink no booze while sub basses throb and wobble the bolts from his joints and the beats hit harder than a rivet gun... surely not what ted hughes had in mind. the flipside dub mix arrives courtesy of pempi, who recently broke out with a track on studio rockers? at the controls compilation. pempi ups the full of dread quota with a heavy barrage of drums, stuttering synths and swelling bass, to create a version that has the potential to consume every motor vehicle in the southern hemisphere. iron man lives again!

starting the year off with this cracking deep ep by our new guys on dirt crew, the runners ! after their extremely succesfull first 12 inch in the beginning of last year which featured the stunning jay shepheard remix they are ready to deliver the next dose of classic house grooves that range from deep house to the more techy edges of electronic dance music. the four originals on this ep alone stand out and keep dirt crew recordings headed towards the future of true deepnes. but as we are real purveyors of soulfull rolling beats we had to add once more one of our favourite producers in the scene to do a remix, this time its our friend from barcelona soul minority who has gained great respect with his cool deep house records over the past years, especially his latest releases on pack up and dance were amongst our most played tracks last year. so here you have it! a great start and there is more coolnes to follow this year! stay tuned and stay deep!
